Aberdeen Harbour, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong 25 December 2010

Our Hong Kong trip in December 2010, we went to Aberdeen Harbour and took the Sampan ride.  The ride went through the floating village, floating restaurants and their shelter.
Aberdeen is in the South of Hong Kong and the largest outside the urban area.  It is known for Hong Kong boat people  literally lived on boat in the 1960's and 70's.
The Harbor is mainly anchored by the modern yachts though, there are  floating restaurants and fishermen still use the bay,  And there are still few living on boat in the harbour.

These are the modern yachts.  We will see later the traditional fishing boats.

Aberdeen is famous for its Hong Kong locals and the floating village and restaurants in the Aberdeen Harbour.

Aberdeen Harbour is one of the nine harbours in Hong Kong and is very popular for its view.

The boat dweller still doing her thing.  Drying fish (probably her dinner)

There is a typhoon shelter in this harbour called Bei Tung Fung, where boats can anchor when there is a storm

Getting to Aberdeen Fishing Village:

Take MTR to Hong Kong Station.
Exit D to Exchange Square
Find the Bus 70 at the Bus Terminal
The Bus will take you to Aberdeen Promenade.
You can use the Octopus card
Great views at the upper deck

You could also take a cab to the Promenade costs about HK$70.

From the Promenade, you can start your sampan ride.

We had our lunch first at the Jumbo Restaurant before we had the sampan ride.
